New York Aquarium

SAVE OUR FRIENDS!
CLICK THIS LINK!!!
I went to the Coney Island Aquarium this past Tuesday, it is a shame to see that even our beloved friends of the sea are feeling the economic crunch that we are all facing. If you are unaware, The New York State Legislature has voted to secure Fiscal Year 2009 funding for zoos, botanical gardens, and aquariums. However, we continue to face a 100 percent cut of state funding for 2010!!!
Please support our aquariums! When I went this past week, the exhibits that are open all look healthy and still full of wild life, however, The Alien Stingers exhibit is closed off, and one of their Walrus tanks has been drained.  I do not know the reasons for this, it may just be seasonal, but regardless we need to help our local Aquariums because they are the front line for education of our youth in underwater conservation and to show them the beauty that is below the surface. Please comment on these issues if you know any information!

The Andrea Doria

Located approximately 110 miles East of the coast of Montauk Point, the Andrea Doria has been called "The Everest of Shipwrecks".  This is because it has settled at 160ft to top of wreck and requires the use of mixed gases and staged decompression stops which are far outside of the recreational diving limits. The Andrea Doria sank in 1956 and since then it has taken the lives of 15 divers.  Although it has been known as a gem for treasure hunters, little is left to find of great value on this deep wreck.  If you have any experiance on this wreck, or any comments I would love to hear some stories!!!

The Dive Club

Scenes from local diving
The Dive Club has been active since 1991. They started with an Instructor and a bunch of Divemasters with the objective of starting a club whose purpose would be to dive! It seems there were far too many clubs out there who spent all their time having meetings but never seemed to get wet! With this in mind "The Dive Club" was started.
With over 100 members and growing, they are the leaders on Long Island for advancing our sport.
Most of the professional dive facilities on the Island and the surrounding boroughs offer discounts on both equipment and courses to their members.
